Mission
To organize national workshops and training programs to develop quality resource on various entities development.
Profile
The Department of Physics was established in the year 1999. This department with strength of 11 Faculty members and 1 Lab assistant caters to the needs of around 1000 UG (B.E. / B.Tech.) and 50 PG (M.Tech Nanoscience & Technology) students of the institution.
The laboratory of the department is well equipped with adequate facilities as demanded by the curriculum of the University. The department has shown strong commitment towards teaching and research. This department was instrumental in conceptualizing and materializing a Postgraduate programme in Nanoscience and Technology, now run by the Anna University Chennai under the Faculty of Technology and about 11 students have obtained Ph.D admission in countries such as Canada, Korea, Taiwan and Japan.
The department offers Ph.D. programme in the advanced areas of research in physics and has so far produced 7 Ph.Ds with 30 scholars presently pursuing their doctoral programme in both full time and part time modes. Also, 22 M.Tech project works and 17 M.Phil dissertations have been guided by the faculty of the department.
The department has active faculty members pursuing research in both basic and applied Physics like Nonlinear optics, Crystal Growth,Thin Films, Ceramic Technology, Lasers, X-ray Studies and Nanomaterials. Some of the faculty members have done Post Doctoral research activities in Foreign Universities (such as JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowship) and have acquired recent knowhow in the frontier areas of their research.
