About
Anna University, BIT campus, Tiruchirappalli has carved a niche for itself in providing technical education in the disciplines that are rare of their kind in our country. Aiming at excellence, the University started to offer UG programme in Pharmaceutical Technology, PG programme in Pharmaceutical Biotechnology. The B.Tech Pharmaceutical Technology is a unique interdisciplinary programme was started in the year 1999 under Bharathidasan University with an objective to bridge the gap between Pharmaceutical Sciences with Chemical Engineering and other allied disciplines.
Since its inception, the Department has undergone several stages of metamorphosis and has significant role and contribution in the success history of BIT Campus. The department had offered M.Pharmacy degree programme with the specialization in Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Analysis since 2005 till 2012. Currently, the department offers B.Tech Pharmaceutical Technology, M.Tech Pharmaceutical Biotechnology courses and M.S (By Research) and Ph.D programmes.
The department has well equipped laboratory facilities for Pharmaceutical Technology, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, Analytical Instrumentation and Chemical Engineering. Apart from that, it possesses good research laboratories and experienced faculty members to offer M.S and Ph.D programmes. About fifteen crores have been attracted from various funding agencies by the faculty members. In addition, two national facilities such as National Facility for Drug Development for Academia, Pharmaceutical and Allied Industries (NFDD) and National Facility on Bioactive Peptides from Milk (NFBP) were created with the support of DST, New Delhi, Govt of India .
The CENTRE FOR EXCELLENCE IN NANOBIO TRANSLATIONAL RESEARCH was established by the department to facilitate the researchers to perform advanced research, to create a state of art research facility, to attract funds from national and international funding agencies, to perform consultancy research, to invite collaborations and other related activities. The Department faculty members had organized several symposiums, conferences, workshops at National and International Level at regular intervals in the past for the benefit of academics and research community. The students of the department have attained top most positions in various Pharma and its allied sectors all over India and in abroad.
